After leaving St. Louis, we drove across Kansas. Kansas was more scenic than we expected. In eastern Kansas there were plenty of rolling hills. Our only stop in Kansas was to spend the night in Topeka at the Marriott Courtyard. It was right next to the mall so I walked over to get a new book. Unfortunately, you can't buy a book at the mall in Kansas.
Although the mall had no book stores, the folks at the Marriott were the nicest people we met at any hotel we have stayed. They gave us free detergent and softener to do our laundry, asked us about our trip, and asked how our stay was the next morning at breakfast.
The highlights of driving across I-70 in Kansas was a windmill farm and reading the signs for the worlds largest Prairie Dog. The low point was listening to the splat of bugs on the windshield. We had to wash the windshield every time we got gas so we could see out. Notice the fender of the jeep above and you will see how many bugs gave their lives for our trip across Kansas.
