The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park

The view of Estes Park and the Rockies from the Stanley Hotel

We were fortunate to get a good deal on a room at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park(http://www.stanleyhotel.com/) . The hotel was built in 1909 by F.O. Stanley, the inventor of the Stanley Steamer. The hotel became renown for its connection to the movie "The Shining". Stephen King came up with the idea for the book "The Shining" after staying at the Stanley Hotel and seeing the signs that area roads were closed for the winter. Due to the lack of snow in Estes Park and the proximity to the town, the movie was not filmed at the Stanley Hotel.
