Durango, Colorado
We stopped in Durango specifically to take another trip on the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (http://www.durangotrain.com). Our first trip was in 1995 which also happened to be our first visit to Colorado. Durango has changed a lot since 1995. Back then, Durango was a small town with quaint restaurants and saloons. Now it is all grown up with Sushi Bars and art galleries. I miss the old Durango!
The best thing about the new Durango is the bike and walking path along the Animas River. The trail runs along the river for several mile through Durango and offers great vantage points for watching the rafters and kayakers through the high water in the late spring.
The worst thing about the new Durango is the fancy places and the pay for parking. We had a difficult time finding any of the great Green Chili Cheeseburger places we remembered from the old days. We had a more difficult time finding a place to park that did not cost a fortune. Thankfully, the train trip was even better than I remembered.
