Mt. Hood, Oregon

The Peak of Mt. Hood

Timberline Lodge, Mt. Hood Oregon

2nd stop on our "The Shining" Movie Tour

Mt. Hood Oregon is the highest point in Oregon at 11,245 feet. It is the fourth highest peak in the Cascades. Mt. Hood is also knon for having the longest ski season in the lower 48 states. People were still skiing when we arrived on June 14.

The Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood was built in 1937 as part of the Work Progress Adminsitration (WPA). It is more recently known for the external shots used in the Stephen King movie "The Shining". Our first stop on "The Shining" tour was the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park which inspired the movie. This lodge was actually used in the movie although it is obvious none of the inside shots were made at the Timberline...even though they show the room and the ax.
