Rain rippling the surface of Crater Lake

The day we went to Crater Lake was not the best weather. It started pelting sleet on the car when we arrived at the Visitor Center. We alternated between rain and sleet most of the time we were there. Even though we did not see the deep blue water in the bright sunlight, it was still beautiful as the clouds rolled in with isolated rain showers on the lake.

We stayed in Prospect, Oregon because it was convenient to visit Crater Lake. Crater Lake gets over 40 feet of snow per year so the drive around the Lake is not usually open until July. We were lucky that in early June the north entrance was opened. That allowed us to drive in the south entrance, around the west rim, and out the north entrance. Every other road still had quite a lot of snow still, including campgrounds and picnic areas.
