Iceland Day 5 - Eglisstadir to Lake Myvtan

 

Eglisstadir was the largest town we stayed in so far.  When we drove to our hotel from the east, there was a gas station and behind the hotel there were shops and restaurants.  The hotel was very busy and the restaurant was full of people dressed for business.  The next morning, when we walked to the car I was surprised to see these two horses on the west side of the hotel.  I guess the town was not that big after all.

Lake Myvtan is Iceland's largest fresh water lake...and obviously another geothermal area.

Iceland - Day 4 (Driving over the Fjords)

After getting back from Papey, we had an hour and a half drive to our next location.  When we put the location in the Garmin navigation device, it was only 60 miles as a bird flies.  However, the road followed the Fjord's along the water then went over the top of the Fjord.  Going over the top had 15-15% inclines and in some places was not paved.  Very beautiful and a little bit scarey.

Iceland - Day 4 (Boat to Papey Island)

Stopped in Djupivogur for lunch and to catch the boat to Papey Island to see Puffins.

Iceland - Day 4 Eastern Fjords

Started the day with a beautiful drive up the coast from Hofn to Djupivogur.  So many amazing views but we had to limit our stops so we could catch the boat to Papey Island.

Day 3 - Iceland (Foss Hotel)

This is the view from our room at the Foss Hotel.  If you have followed the blog, I guess you have figured out that Foss means waterfall.  Look how many Foss's are visible from our room.

Day 3 - Iceland (Vatnjokull National Park)

This was my favorite place...it was AMAZING!  I wish we had more time here..notice the theme.  One week is not enough time in Iceland.
